Looking for our V8 Supercars calendar for 2023?  Get the current dates and all the latest on the debut of Gen3 in 2023!

The 2022 Supercar season is already underway, and what a season it promises to be! We cannot wait for the schedule to be packed again. And of course, to finally see the Grand Prix return in April.

Let’s take a look at everything we need to know about the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship.

What’s new in 2022?

  • This will be the first Supercars Championship under new ownership of Racing Australia Consolidated Enterprises Ltd.
  • Sydney hosts the opening event for the first time since 1999.
  • All rounds will be held between March and November.
  • 6 events will return for the first time since 2019.
  • The ‘fastest lap’ rule will remain at the Sprint events, however the driver now only receives the points if they also finish in the top 15 places.
  • The new Gen3 models, due for their competitive debut in 2023, will be on show, cranking out test laps at various events.

2022 Repco Supercars Championship Calendar

Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight – NSW

When: March 04-06, 2022

Where: Sydney Motorsport Park, Eastern Creek

Format: Two 300 km Races; First one under lights

2021 Winners: Shane van Gisbergen, Anton de Pasquale, Anton de Pasquale, Shane van Gisbergen

Sydney Motorsport Park hosted four consecutive rounds of the Supercars Championship in 2021, but will return to its normal one-round format this year. It was the first year the championship opener was under lights and in a ‘drenched’ motorsport park, staying on the black stuff was never more critical.

The two races were action-packed with plenty of carnage. The first was won by the 2021 Champ, Shane Van Gisbergen and the second by the 2021 Bathurst 1000 victor, Chaz Mostert. These two demonstrated more of their end of 2021 season speed, with SVG firming as the hot favourite for the 2022 title, and Chaz the most likely challenger.

Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix – VIC

When: April 07-10, 2022

Where: Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit, Melbourne

Format: Four 100 km Races

Last Round Winner 2019: Chaz Mostert

We absolutely cannot wait for the Grand Prix this year! More than 324,000 fans packed Albert Park in 2019, no one thought we would have to wait three year to see the event return. But that wait is almost over!

Back in 2019  Chaz Mostert won the Larry Perkins Trophy for accumulating the most points over the weekend and Race 4 was the 1,000th Australian Touring Car Championship race, won by Scott McLaughlin. With McLaughlin off to an impressive start to his IndyCar season, he’s not there to take the glory away from Chaz, if he continues to find the form he showed in Sydney.

Bunnings Trade Perth SuperNight – WA

When: April 30 – May 01, 2022

Where: Barbagallo Raceway, Perth

Format: Three 110 km Races

Last Race Winners 2019: Fabian Coulthard & Scott McLaughlin

The exciting restructure of this event debuted at night for the first time in 2019, the event has been on hold. We believe it will be a massive success on the Supercars Calendar in 2022 with WA fans starved of action due to border restrictions during 2020-21.

Winton SuperSprint – VIC

When: May 21-22, 2022

Where: Winton Motor Raceway, Winton

Format: Three 115 km Races

Last Round Winner 2019: Scott McLaughlin

Like many venues, it’s been a long wait for Supercars to return and this technical ‘driver’s’ track is renowned for being the southern state ‘test’ circuit for many teams. By the time the teams make the long haul back from the West, there will be leaders looking to consolidate on their strong season start and ‘outsiders’ looking to cause an upset as Rick Kelly famously did in 2018.

Merlin Darwin Triple Crown – NT

When: June 18-19, 2022

Where: Hidden Valley Raceway, Darwin

Format: Three 110 km Races

This classic round is a great reason for southern state fans to get away from the cold and enjoy the NT hospitality and a chance to have ‘Crocodile Dundee’ style adventures. After fans dubbed the Darwin Triple Crown their favourite event in the 2021 Supercars Fans’ Choice Awards, it’s sure to generate more excitement than ever in 2022. After Scott McLaughlin became the first driver to win 3 consecutive rounds in 2017-19, look out for current champ Shane Van Gisbergen to continue his strong results up north in 2022.

NTI Townsville 500 – QLD

Where: Reid Park Street Circuit, Townsville

Format: Three 110 km Races

2021 Winner: Shane van Gisbergen

This event was held twice in 2021 as the Townsville SuperSprint, with back to back events helping Supercars overcome Covid-driven border restrictions in 2021 with both events won by van Gisbergen. Like Darwin’s round, this Townsville street race is a great opportunity to enjoy warm winter weather and the beauty of north Queensland and the Reef.

OTR SuperSprint – SA

When: July 30-31, 2022

Where: The Bend Motorsport Park, Tailem Bend

Format: Three 115 km Races

2021 Winner: Shane van Gisbergen

Shane van Gisbergen was dominating the mid-2021 season on his way to a dominant championship winning performance. The Bend is Australia’s newest permanent motorsport venue with world class facilities and four amazing circuits including the 7.7 km GT Circuit, the second longest in the world, with the famous Nurburgring being the only longer permanent race track. The Supercars use the 4.95 km International Circuit is favoured by Supercars to maximise driving excitement and fan viewing.

Penrite Oil Sandown SuperSprint – VIC

When: August 19-21, 2022

Where: Sandown International Motor Raceway, Melbourne

Format: Three 125 km Races

2021 Winner: Shane van Gisbergen

The Supercar events just keep on coming for Victorians this year. The Sandown event was scheduled early in 2021 and Shane van Gisbergen’s incredible three race wins with a broken collarbone will always be remembered by race fans. By August, Melbourne will be in the depths of winter, so expect to see more excitement at the legendary home of the Sandown 500.

ITM Auckland SuperSprint – NZ

Where: Pukekohe Park Raceway, Pukekohe Hill

Format: Three 115 km Races

Last round Winner 2019: Shane van Gisbergen

New Zealand has produced world class racing drivers including the current international stars, Power, McLaughlin and Van Gisbergen. Supercar fans across the ditch will be excited for September, when the first Supercar event will be held in New Zealand since 2019 when the local heroes Shane and Scottie shared the honours. Be ready for a big post-Covid turnout and another classic encounter on this high speed and perilous circuit.

Where: Mouth Panorama Motor Racing Circuit, Bathurst

Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 – QLD

When: October 28-30, 2022

Where: Surfers Paradise Street Circuit, Gold Coast

Format: Two 250 km Races

Winning Driver Pairing 2019: Jamie Whincup & Craig Lowndes

Way back in 2019, V8 legends Whincup and Lowndes showed their class with a clinical win in the Gold Coast 600. By the time the 2022 event takes place, the championship may be close to being decided, but this event always delivers excitement with this very tight circuit and tough endurance race.

Repco Newcastle 500 – NSW*

When: TBA

Where: Newcastle Street Circuit, Newcastle

Format: Two 250 km Races

Last Winner 2019: Jamie Whincup

*The Repco Newcastle 500 was originally scheduled to open the Supercar season, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Newcastle street race is quickly becoming a crowd favourite with Jamie Whincup winning in 2019, but could not deny McLaughlin taking another championship before heading off to the US to race Indy Cars.

With a possibility of a new SA state government bringing back the Adelaide street race in late 2022, let’s see if the current schedule stays in place, or there’s more twists and turns down the track.
