John Bowe – Legendary Hot Laps

Bowe was racing in the Australian Grand Prix over 40 years ago and has never slowed down. His success in open-wheelers, sports sedans, V8 Touring and Supercars and more recently the Touring Car Master’s series, has elevated John Bowe to 6th position overall in the world of motorsport in terms of championship race wins. There’s only 5 American drivers, no Australian or any other international driver, including Lewis Hamilton, with more championship race wins that John Bowe.

John Bowe – The Master Blaster!

John Bowe started his remarkable career at the age of 16 (so rumour has it – haha) and he’s one of Australia’s most admired and respected race drivers who’s achieved an unrivalled number of victories and awards in his (almost) five decades behind the wheel.

Bowe has achieved in his motor racing career, a long list of accolades and titles, with his versatility behind any wheel confirmed by being the only driver to win an Australian title in four different race categories. Starting in Tasmania in open-wheelers, JB progressed to race in the Australian F1 Grand Prix in the late 1970s, and win the Australian Drivers’ Championship during the Formula Mondial era, then moving into sedans to win the Australian Sports Car Championship, the Australian Touring Car Championship and the Touring Car Masters Championship (six times).

He’s a veteran of successful campaigns at Bathurst, twice victorious in the Bathurst 1000, in 1989 and 1994 with longtime friend and teammate Dick Johnson, and is the only driver to win the prestigious 12 Hour on three occasions – twice at Bathurst and once at Eastern Creek.

After setting the record for 225 Supercar race round starts, JB retired from the V8 main game, he was honoured with an induction into the Supercar Hall of Fame (2009), the Bathurst Legends (2017) and more recently the CAMS Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 2018. JB can’t resist the thrill of racing or the enjoyment of his fans and has competed in the Touring Car Masters since 2009. In TCM, JB’s frequently on the front, setting lap records, pole position records and has won the series in both a Ford and Holden while battling hard on many occasions with friends and sons of former team mates like Steven Johnson (son of Dick Johnson) and Ryan Hansford (son of Gregg Hansford).
